Cannes Stars Unite: Stepping Off the Red Carpet to Rally Behind AIDS Research

Notable celebrities such as Queen Latifah, Jeffrey Wright, and Heidi Klum sought respite from the bustling Croisette Boulevard of the Cannes Film Festival, as they dedicated an evening to supporting AIDS research. The event took place at an exclusive luxury hotel nestled in the serene resort town of Antibes, offering a secluded setting for the fundraiser.

“I wanted to be here tonight because I think it’s such a beautiful charity and just to be able to do what I can,” said Bebe Rexha, one of the stars performing at the Thursday event.

Alongside Rexha, a star-studded lineup including Gladys Knight, Adam Lambert, and Halsey captivated the esteemed attendees, while Queen Latifah graced the role of host for the night’s proceedings. The event encompassed a captivating fashion show and an engaging auction.

The overarching objective of this extravagant affair was to generate funds in support of amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, an organization dedicated to advancing HIV prevention, treatment education, and advocacy.

“Our goal is there can be a cure for everyone,” said amfAR chief executive Kevin Robert Frost on the event’s blue carpet.

Before the commencement of dinner, attendees leisurely strolled through the idyllic courtyard of the hotel, offering a picturesque view of the glistening waters and an impressive sight of a colossal yacht. They indulged in sips of Champagne while perusing the showcased auction items.

Among the notable pieces up for bidding, there was a painting entitled “Beautiful Leonardo DiCaprio Looking Away Painting,” adorned with the signatures of both the renowned actor and the artist Damien Hirst. Additionally, an 80-foot geometric sculpture crafted from steel, glass, and LED lights, featured in the film “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” was also available to the highest bidder.

Heidi Klum graced the occasion in an ethereal pale green dress, adorned with feathery accents that gracefully trailed behind her as she moved throughout the grounds. Bebe Rexha, on the other hand, wore a dress embellished with an extravagantly large ribbon bow, resembling a pair of wings.

The event featured a range of ticket options, with the least expensive ticket starting at $25,000 per guest. For those seeking an elevated experience, a price of $500,000 secured first-choice dinner seating for a group of 12 guests.

Since its establishment in 1985, amfAR has made substantial contributions to its programs, with investments totaling nearly $600 million. The organization has also bestowed over 3,500 research grants to teams worldwide, furthering the cause of AIDS research and advocacy.
